On Monday May 2nd at 2pm, city mayors of the cities who support the Hudson Valley Saturday art and cultural events joined forces to launch the second year of the collaborative marketing campaign – Art Along the Hudson, promoting the arts in our region.  The four city mayors are Kingston - James Sottile (represented by Cathy Maloney), Beacon - Clara Lou Gould, Poughkeepsie - Nancy Cozean, And Newburgh - Nick Valentine.  Each city was presented with a poster of the cover panel from the brochure and their city's listing.     Click here for the photo gallery from the press conference.

Saturdays have become special days for art in the four cities of Kingston, Beacon, Poughkeepsie and Newburgh. On four separate Saturdays each month, art galleries and cultural venues welcome visitors and arts advocates to gallery openings, artist receptions, music, theatrical events and for culinary dining pleasures. Every month, new artwork and cultural activity open on First Saturday in Kingston; Second Saturday in Beacon, the Third Saturday in Poughkeepsie, and in Newburgh on the Fourth Saturday.

The Arts Organizations of these four cities - Arts Society of Kingston (ASK), Beacon Arts Community Association (BACA), Poughkeepsie ArtHop and the River Art Walk of Newburgh (RAW) along with the support of  the Dutchess County Arts Council, PULSE and the Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union have collaborated to produce a new gallery guide and website www.artalongthehudson.com which will showcase  the arts and cultural venues and happenings of 4 Cities + 4 Saturdays  for the next twelve months.

This unique collaborative effort recognizes the Hudson Valley Region as an vibrant arts and  cultural community with a reputation that reaches around the world.  The Art Along the Hudson alliance partners include the:

Comments about the Press Conference:
From Sara Pasti - BACA President  5/3/2005

I was unable to attend the press conference due to a last minute work obligation, but did attend Beacon's City Council meeting last night, where I heard Mayor Clara Lou Gould speak very well of the event and of the Art Along the Hudson concept.  She proudly held up her poster for all in the room to see, and had extra copies of the brochure available for anyone who wanted to take one.  She was exceedingly complimentary about this project...so now you know, you're in the City's record!  Congratulations to all of you, and on behalf of BACA and its members, many thanks for your heroic volunteer efforts!
