Poughkeepsie celebrates the arts throughout the year in all forms – exhibitions, dance, music and the culinary arts. Home to a wide variety of theaters and performance spaces, Poughkeepsie is the performing arts capital of the Hudson Valley, and also features more than 30 murals, 70 outdoor sculptures, historic architecture and the Walkway Over the Hudson, many that are within walking distance of the train station. Queen City Saturdays is the third weekend of every month – an advocacy project by the Dutchess County Arts Council to provide information and promote the area artists and cultural events. Queen City Arts is an initiative to provide gallery space in Poughkeepsie, where currently there are few opportunities for local artists to exhibit. Artists are encouraged to contact the Arts Council to exhibit their artwork. To become involved with these arts and cultural events, contact the Arts Council: 845-454-3222 or www.artsmidhudson.org The Dutchess County Arts Council is a nonprofit arts service organization founded in 1964, dedicated to strengthening and supporting artists and arts organizations in the Mid-Hudson Valley region. The mission of the Dutchess County Arts Council is to provide the vision and leadership to support a thriving and diverse arts culture in the Mid-Hudson Valley. http://queencityarts.org |
Hyde Park, located between Poughkeepsie and Rhinebeck, is home to a number of artists, who are inspired by its beautiful views of the Hudson and a rich history dating back to 1742. The opening of the Artists’ Collective of Hyde Park Gallery in 2012 has added a popular venue for art lovers. Hyde Park and adjacent Staatsburg boast historic parks and locations including the Franklin D. Roosevelt Home and Library, Eleanor’s estate “Valkill”, the Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site, Mills Norrie State Park, Norrie Point Marina and the Culinary Institute of America. These destinations, as well as the proximity to area colleges and Hyde Park’s charming inns and B&B’s, attract many visitors each year. The mem bers of the Artists’ Collective of Hyde Park nurture art and artists in the local area, present art exhibitions and events and volunteer in support of community and charitable organizations. www.hydeparkartists.com |
